Hiring an entire Maintenance department for £35m new factory

Challenge
A new FMCG factory in Merseyside had been built and was due to become operational within 6 months. The company had recruited operatives directly via Indeed but did not have a Maintenance team in place. We were tasked with recruiting the entire engineering function consisting of 8 Multi-Skilled Engineers and an Engineering Manager.
Solution
Knowing both locally and nationally, Maintenance Engineers were in high demand we had to generate a longlist of over 300 candidates to qualify down to meet the required volume. We identified companies who were downsizing, offered referral bonuses and targeted recent apprentices. For the Engineering Manager we conducted a search and selection campaign aiming for candidates with experience of setting up maintenance teams and overseeing commission and installation in a new factory.
From 27 interviews, 8 Maintenance Engineers and 1 Engineering Manager were successfully recruited. All were onboarded in time to be involved with the installation and commissioning of the site’s new automated equipment.
